Modern Slavery Act 2015 Compliance Statement

LAJ Academy Limited confirms that it is committed to complying with Chelmsford College’s policies, procedures and contractual requirements, including all requirements relating to safeguarding, safer recruitment, equality and diversity, employment law, data protection, procurement, subcontracting, learner support and ethical business practice.

LAJ Academy also confirms its commitment to the principles and requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We have a Modern Slavery Statement published on our website, which sets out our commitment to preventing modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, servitude, exploitation and unethical labour practices within our organisation, delivery arrangements and supply chain.

Although LAJ Academy is currently below the statutory turnover threshold for mandatory publication of an annual Modern Slavery Statement, we have taken a proactive approach by publishing a statement and maintaining policies and procedures that support compliance with the spirit and principles of the Act.

Our controls include safer recruitment checks, right-to-work checks, identity verification, reference checks and DBS checks where required. We also carry out due diligence on staff, consultants, venues, suppliers and any relevant delivery arrangements. Clear expectations are set in relation to ethical conduct, safeguarding, equality and diversity, data protection, whistleblowing, complaints handling and learner welfare.

LAJ Academy will not knowingly work with any supplier, employer, partner or organisation where there is evidence of forced labour, human trafficking, exploitation, unethical recruitment practices or any conduct inconsistent with the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Staff involved in delivery are expected to remain alert to indicators of exploitation and to report concerns through safeguarding and senior management procedures.

Any concern relating to modern slavery, exploitation or human trafficking will be escalated promptly through LAJ Academy’s safeguarding procedures and, where appropriate, reported to Chelmsford College and relevant statutory agencies.

LAJ Academy further confirms that it will comply with Chelmsford College’s Modern Slavery, safeguarding, procurement and subcontracting requirements throughout the partnership and will provide copies or links to relevant policies, procedures and statements upon request. The PQQ specifically asks providers to confirm Modern Slavery compliance and provide a link to the statement where available.
