Modern Slavery Act 2015 Compliance Statement

LAJ Academy Limited confirms that it is committed to complying with Chelmsford College’s policies, procedures and contractual requirements, including all requirements relating to safeguarding, safer recruitment, equality and diversity, employment law, data protection, procurement, subcontracting, learner support and ethical business practice.

LAJ Academy also confirms its commitment to the principles and requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We have a Modern Slavery Statement published on our website, which sets out our commitment to preventing modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, servitude, exploitation and unethical labour practices within our organisation, delivery arrangements and supply chain.

Although LAJ Academy is currently below the statutory turnover threshold for mandatory publication of an annual Modern Slavery Statement, we have taken a proactive approach by publishing a statement and maintaining policies and procedures that support compliance with the spirit and principles of the Act.

Our controls include safer recruitment checks, right-to-work checks, identity verification, reference checks and DBS checks where required. We also carry out due diligence on staff, consultants, venues, suppliers and any relevant delivery arrangements. Clear expectations are set in relation to ethical conduct, safeguarding, equality and diversity, data protection, whistleblowing, complaints handling and learner welfare.

LAJ Academy will not knowingly work with any supplier, employer, partner or organisation where there is evidence of forced labour, human trafficking, exploitation, unethical recruitment practices or any conduct inconsistent with the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Staff involved in delivery are expected to remain alert to indicators of exploitation and to report concerns through safeguarding and senior management procedures.

Any concern relating to modern slavery, exploitation or human trafficking will be escalated promptly through LAJ Academy’s safeguarding procedures and, where appropriate, reported to Chelmsford College and relevant statutory agencies.

LAJ Academy further confirms that it will comply with Chelmsford College’s Modern Slavery, safeguarding, procurement and subcontracting requirements throughout the partnership and will provide copies or links to relevant policies, procedures and statements upon request. The PQQ specifically asks providers to confirm Modern Slavery compliance and provide a link to the statement where available.

LAJ Academy Limited — Carbon Reduction Plan

27 Sept 2026 · @Jonathan

LAJ Academy Limited (company number 13472504) is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. This plan follows the Procurement Policy Note 06/21 standard.

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

LAJ Academy Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

LAJ Academy is a small, director-led adult education and training provider based in London. It delivers teaching, training and learning support face to face at client and partner venues, and online. The company owns no premises, vehicles or plant, so its footprint is very small and comes mainly from business travel. We will keep it as low as possible as the business grows, and apply the measures in this plan to every public sector contract we deliver.

Baseline emissions footprint

The baseline year is 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, the company's financial year ending 30 June 2025. Baseline emissions were 0.04 tCO2e, all of it Scope 3.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 are zero because the company has no premises, company vehicles, gas or purchased electricity of its own. The director works from a home office. Scope 3 covers the categories required by PPN 06/21: business travel, employee commuting, waste generated in operations, and upstream and downstream transportation and distribution.

Emissions were calculated in line with the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, the Technical Standard for the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3), and PPN 06/21. They were estimated from the company's travel, expense and bank records using the UK Government (DESNZ) greenhouse gas conversion factors. Commuting is zero because the director works from home and travels only for business, which is counted under business travel. The company ships no physical goods.

Emissions reduction targets

We will keep Scope 1 and 2 emissions at zero and cut Scope 3 emissions per learner by 50% by 2030 from the 2024/25 baseline, reaching Net Zero by 2050.

Carbon reduction projects

Completed measures

These measures are already in place and have kept the company's footprint at 0.04 tCO2e a year:

  • Home-based operation: no office premises, so no business heating, lighting or commuting emissions.

  • Online and blended delivery: courses, tutorials and assessments are offered online where this suits learners, avoiding travel for learners and tutors.

  • Public transport: business travel is by rail, Underground and bus. The company has no vehicles.

  • Paperless administration: enrolment, learning materials, assessment and record-keeping are digital.

Measures applied when performing the contract

On every public sector contract, LAJ Academy will:

  • Offer online or blended delivery where it meets learners' needs and the buyer's requirements.

  • Use community venues close to learners and on public transport routes for face-to-face sessions.

  • Recruit local tutors in each delivery area, so staff travel short distances.

  • Travel by public transport, walking or cycling, with car travel used only where no alternative exists.

  • Provide learning materials digitally, printing only where learners need hard copies, on recycled paper.

  • Buy energy-efficient, refurbished or long-life IT equipment and recycle it responsibly at end of life.

  • Record travel and energy use for each contract and include it in the annual update of this plan.

Future measures

  • Add basic carbon awareness to tutor induction and to course content where relevant, supporting green skills.

  • Choose suppliers and subcontractors with their own Net Zero commitments.
